The Sea to Sea 2008 Bike Tour will require the generous support of volunteers in a variety of areas:
- administrative assistance (from home in many cases)
- local celebration rally organizer
- traveling with the tour as a member of the support crew (various tasks, submit an application form for consideration).

Registration for Volunteer Support Crew on Tour:
Registration is now open for volunteers wishing lend their skills and support for the entire nine-week tour or a portion of the tour. Applicants will be chosen based on skills required to fulfill the variety of tasks. Space on the tour is limited.

Please note that volunteer applications are handled differently than cyclist applications. Volunteers are selected to fit the needs of the tour and there is no guarantee that each applicant is accepted. You should expect a phone call or e-mail from Sea to Sea staff between two and six weeks after your application is received. Thank you for your patience as these applications are considered.
Requirements to participate as a volunteer on this tour:
- Must agree with and support the purpose of the tour:
- To work toward ending the cycle of poverty by raising awareness and funds to support poverty-alleviation programs initiated by the CRC and its partners, and motivating people to use their time and skills to help those living in poverty.
- Must by endorsed by a Christian Reformed church.
- Must be at least 18 years old by the start of the tour (June 28, 2008).
- Must have a valid passport prior to the start of the tour.
- Must not have a police and/or criminal record.
- Must be physically, mentally and spiritually fit.
- Must provide your own tent and other accommodation-related equipment.
- Must provide own funds to cover travel costs to Seattle and home from Jersey City.
- Must have adequate Medical Insurance.
- Must be willing to take basic first aid and CPR courses. Fee will be reimbursed.
There is no fee or fund-raising requirement to participate, although organizers would encourage even support crew members to do so. Normal expenses incurred by volunteers as a result of the tour (eg: fuel) will be reimbursed.
Some jobs require specific requirements and/or licenses:
Kitchen Staff — all kitchen team positions are filled
Kitchen Team Lead – oversees the kitchen/food operations. Duties include designing tour menu while taken into account special dietary needs, arranging for the purchasing of all food items, keeping track of supply stock, ensuring timely preparation of meals, monitoring distribution of food, and overseeing cyclist volunteers assigned to kitchen duty.
Cook – ideal candidate would have experience in cooking food for large groups of people in a fast paced, buffet style setting.
Food Preparer – provides aid to the cook by preparing ingredients. Duties may include washing and cutting of vegetables, measuring and mixing ingredients, and washing and drying dishes.
Food Server – aids cook by serving cyclists. Duties may include delivering food to the dinner tent, dishing out food to the cyclists, ensuring serving dishes are replaced when empty and helping with clean up.
Truck Driver – drives the gear trailers, media center and portable kitchen facility from one campsite to the next. Driver must have appropriate license: in the US, CDL with appropriate class/air brake designation; in Canada, Class 1 license. Positions are filled
SAG Wagon Driver – provides support to the cyclists on the route. Several SAG (Support And Gear) Wagons will be parked along the cyclist’s route daily. These wagons and their drivers serve as a point of contact for the riders. Each driver will be outfitted with water, possibly snacks, first aid kit and access to medical support, basic bike repair kit and access to bike mechanic, and can provide direct communications to camp. SAG wagons also provide a ride for individuals who cannot complete the daily ride for whatever reason. 2 more are needed (including a team leader)
Medical Support – licensed medical professional (M.D., R.N., E.MT.) to provide medical support for the participants of the tour. Position is filled
Campsite Supervisor – aid with the set up and tear down of daily campsite. Duties may include overseeing cyclist groups during the packing and unpacking of gear trucks, scouting water and power support at each locations and positioning kitchen and media centers in the appropriate locations, hooking up and un-hooking water sources, arranging for volunteer security at some locations and making sure the campsite is left in a better condition than when we arrived. Bike Mechanic – duties include performing a wide range of repairs on bikes during the tour. An ideal candidate would have vast experience in repairing bikes. 1 needed
