Community Service Projects

During the nine-week Sea to Sea tour, participants will have the option to sign up for community service projects in the following select cities along the route. Read this article for more information.

Yakima, Washington – Thursday, July 3

Union Gospel Mission
About a dozen cyclists volunteering in various places with the mission: preparing and serving the evening meal at the shelter, hanging out with the homeless in a nearby park, loading donated furniture into vehicles at the warehouse.
Time: 1 – 3 p.m. (furniture), 5 — 7 p.m. (dinner)

Sunnyside, Washington – Friday, July 4

Family & Child Services
One or two dozen cyclists helping low-income families by doing yard work, house work, building wheelchair ramps, etc.
Time: 2 – 5 p.m.

Boise, Idaho – Saturday, July 12

Boise Rescue Mission
About 8-12 cyclists assisting at the women’s and children’s shelter by fixing bikes.
Time: 4-5 p.m.

Bicycle Exchange Program
Another three dozen riders fixing bikes in downtown Boise.
Time: 3-5 p.m.

Denver, Colorado – Saturday, July 26

Denver Rescue Mission—The Crossing
Ten cyclists assist in serving dinner to the residents at the facility.
Time: 5-7:30 p.m.

Denver Rescue Mission—Lawrence Street
Eight cyclists help serve a late dinner to this community's homeless and hungry.
Time: 7:30-9 p.m.

Gary, Indiana – Wednesday, August 13

A Glimpse Into the Hopelessness of Poverty
Gary resident John Hoffmaster will lead a dozen cyclists through impoverished neighborhoods where the church is at work in addressing the injustices related to poverty.
Time: 10:30 a.m. - 12 noon

Grand Haven, Friday, August 15

Love Inc.
Ten to 12 cyclists providing bicycle maintenance. Other service opportunities may be possible.
Time: 2 – 5 p.m.

London, Ontario – Thursday, August 21

Ark Aid Mission
Two to three dozen cyclists joining/serving a meal at the mission and making a presentation about the tour those gathered.
Time: 7 – 8:30 p.m.

Mission Services
About 8 cyclists serving one of two meals at the mission.
Time: 4 p.m. and 5:15 p.m.

Hamilton, Ontario – Friday, August 22

Mission Services
As many cyclists as possible ride into downtown Hamilton to encourage and spend time with underprivileged youth at a summer camp.
Time: 2:30 p.m.

St. Catharines, Ontario – Saturday, August 23

Start Me Up, Niagara
About six (speedy) cyclists serving lunch at the shelter.
Time: 11 – 1 p.m.

RAFT (Resource Association For Teens)
A drop-in center and homeless shelter (details TBA)

Binghamton, New York – Wednesday, August 27

CHOW (Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse)
Local radio station is running a food drive in the weeks leading up to the cyclists' arrival in Binghamton. A dozen cyclists are needed to help sort and store the food in the warehouse.
Time: 4 - 6 p.m.
