Know - Give - Act

The Sea to Sea Bike Tour has three main goals...

To increase:

  • Awareness about cycles of poverty and their devastating effects on human lives;
  • Involvement in ministry with and on behalf of the poor;
  • Funding of programs that help break the cycles of poverty that keep people poor.

In order for this project to be a success, we're asking all those who have been inspired by the Sea to Sea Bike Tour to prayerfully consider these three targets:

Please KNOW

Become informed about issues related to poverty. Find out how poverty occurs and how it is being addressed in your neighborhood or in a country for which God has given you a passion. Read about the Jubilee Debt Campaign or the Millennium Development Goals. Learn how your government is helping and hindering the care of the poor and marginalized. Join the Justice Seekers forum to share ideas. Sign up to newsletters, such as The Advocate, to get plugged in.

Please GIVE

The world's richest nations have promised to give .7 percent of their Gross National Income in foreign aid, a step that the United Nations says is necessary to make serious progress toward alleviate poverty in the world. While we ought to lobby our governments to that end, it should start with us, and with our churches. You can give to Sea to Sea (we've partnered with a number of agencies working to reduce poverty), or directly to a community development agency of your own choosing. Whatever you decide, please give.

Please ACT

After you've learned more about poverty at home or across the world... after you've prayed about how God is calling you to serve with and for the poor, stand up and take action. God's command to his people throughout Scripture is clear: take care of the poor and needy, stand up for the rights of the oppressed. To follow Jesus is to fulfil that command. Volunteer for an hour a week with an organization in your community. Consider a career change. Get political  and advocate with action groups such as Make Poverty History, the ONE Campaign, Micah Challenge or the CRC's own Office of Social Justice and Hunger Action.

Start by filling in the Sea to Sea pledge card. To get connected as a volunteer with the CRC, click here.
