Public Act 693

Public Act 693: This law is referred to as Public Act 693 and amends the Child Protection Law, Public Act 238, first enacted in 1975. 

Section 2 (l) defines who clergy are as it applies to this new law. "Member of the clergy" means a priest, minister, rabbi, Christian science practitioner, or other religious practitioner, or similar functionary of a church, temple, or recognized religious body, denomination, or organization. 

Section 3 (a) defines the role of a mandated reporter.  A mandatory reporter is an individual required under this act to report suspected abuse or neglect. A mandated reporter who "has reasonable cause to suspect child abuse or neglect shall make immediately, by telephone or otherwise, an oral report, or cause an oral report to be made", of the suspected child abuse or neglect to children's protective services.
