Micah Challenge

Did you know your country promised to meet eight poverty-reducing goals by the year 2015? Goals like reducing disease and illiteracy; increasing primary school education and foreign assistance?

The United States and Canada both have, thanks to a neat little agreement signed in 2000 by all 189 UN states.

This agreement, called the Millennium Declaration, defined eight time-bound, measurable goals designed to halve global poverty by the year 2015. These goals, listed on the right, are called the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

The CRC supports these goals through the Micah Challenge, a global movement of Christians aiming to deepen our engagement with the poor, and to encourage our governments to meet the Millennium Development Goals.

The Christian Reformed Church endorsed the Micah Challenge at its 2004 synod, and has been deeply engaged in its various campaigns.

Learn how to get involved with your country's campaign: United States, Canada, or check out the international site.

If you haven't already done so, consider signing the Micah Call, a pledge to do your part in holding governments accountable to their promises.

He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? - Micah 6:8
