SPECIFIC AREAS OF LEARNING FOR THE VISIT
#1. Get to know and form relationships with Palestinian Christian leaders, their institutions and churches. What is their reality? What historical relationships do we already have? What kind of additional/enhanced relationships would be helpful to them and to us?
#2. Better understand the reality of life for Palestinians living in the occupied territories, for citizens of Israel, and for settlers. What is it like to cope as a Palestinian living in the West Bank? Why are Israeli settlers so committed and what is their life like?
#3. Identify faith groups working actively in the region for peace and justice and see/visit their activities or projects. We are particularly interested in groups comprised of Israelis and Palestinians. What is working? Where is there hope? How might we participate?
The following are important but secondary priorities:
#4. Visit and interact with government officials – particularly Palestinian officials – to better understand the politics of the region. What are the prospects for a viable, sustainable Palestinian state co-existing with Israel? What should we work toward in terms of US and Canadian foreign policy in the region?
#5. Find out what is being done by other denominations and US/Canadian based institutions in promoting justice, peace, human welfare, and the involvement of their own constituency in this work. Can we partner with anyone? Should we?
#6. Get a better historical/biblical understanding of “The Holy Land”.
A DIVERSE AND CAPABLE GROUP!
