Ecumenical ToolkitInterchurch Relations Committee (IRC)
The Interchurch Relations Committee (IRC) represents the Christian Reformed Church (CRC) in its ecumenical relationships. Such relationships tie the CRC to the larger Reformed family and other ecumenical communities throughout the world. “As we draw closer to Christ, we draw closer to each other.” This profound statement can be applied to marriage and family relationships, to congregational fellowship, and to our experience as members of the Christian Reformed Church in North America. The quotation comes from a source which shows that another application is intended, however. The Ecumenical Charter of the CRCNA, revised in 2006, uses this language in reference to our being part of the Body of Christ (II.A.3). Many denominations and Christian communities share in the wonderful reality of identification with the Lord, and ecumenical activities show a developing sense of the Spirit’s leading. The Interchurch Relations Committee (a standing committee of Synod, composed of people from both the United States and Canada) has drawn together an “Ecumenical Toolkit.” Using this resource, churches and individuals may learn about the biblical teaching and theological conclusions regarding ecumenical relationships. Also, they can see which churches and organizations are in special relationship with the CRCNA, and who from our denomination are serving in specific roles. Many links to relevant websites are included. The IRC’s hope is that this toolkit will be helpful in encouraging appropriate and enthusiastic involvement in ecumenical activities. If you have questions or comments about this toolkit or any of its contents, do not hesitate to contact the Interchurch Relations Committee. Committee members: Staff members: |
