Instant Ideas

Here’s how some churches have used the Walk On Resource Book. We’d love to hear what you’ve done. Share your ideas with Jolanda Malburg, Faith Alive's Training and Consulting Coordinator at malburgj@crcna.org.

People in the News

Provide a bulletin board at church where members can post articles about members of your church from newsletters or newspapers.

Books and Faith

Ask church members to write a book review. The resource lists from the Walk On resource book and from this web site are a good place to start. The review can be published in your church newsletter or could be placed with the book on display at your church.

Special Passage

Challenge members of your congregation to choose a verse or passage from the Bible that has special meaning for them. Share these special passages with the congregation in the church newsletter, bulletin, or small group. You could even choose to share them during a testimony time in worship.

Children's Questions

Ask children what questions they have about their faith. Write the questions on placemats that the children can take home. Encourage the parents and children to talk about the questions over dinner.

Adult Sunday School

When Lori Houskamp, the Education Coordinator at Ferrysburg CRC, learned early one Sunday morning that a speaker for an adult Sunday school class couldn't make it, she could have panicked. But Lori had recently received the Walk On Resource Book and DVD. Instead of canceling class, she and Adult Education committee member Glenn Merz showed the Walk On video. Then they turned to page 39 of the resource book and used those questions to guide the discussion. The discussion went so well that the class only talked about three of the questions. Members of the class suggested that they schedule another time to talk about faith formation.

Faith Question Centerpiece

Sharing faith can happen anytime your congregation gathers for a meal. Make a copy of the questions on page 39 of the Walk On Resource Book (also available on line at http://www.crcna.org/site_uploads/uploads/Resource_final_sm.pdf ). Cut the copy apart so only one question is on each piece of paper. Place the papers in a cup in the center of the table. Ask the people at each table to talk about at least one question from the cup as they begin their meal together. Have the youngest person at each table select a question from the cup. Encourage everyone at the table to respond.

Gathering Time and Faith

Before a Bible study or other meeting, put a question from page 39 of the Walk On Resource Book (also available on line at http://www.crcna.org/site_uploads/uploads/Resource_final_sm.pdf ) on a screen or white board. While people are gathering for class, ask the participants to share their response to the question with each other. As class begins, spend a few minutes discussing what people learned about each other and about faith.
