Breaking Barriers has three purposes:
- to tell the stories of people in the church who live with disabilities and their families,
- to provide useful information for church members and leaders on ministry with people with disabilities,
- to inspire the church to include ALL of its members in its life and ministry.

The Christian Reformed Church's work with people with disabilities was featured in an article from a 2006 book. Hank Kuntz, a Regional Disability Advocate, summarized this article.
