Youth to Youth Program 2009

If you are interested in learning how to love mercy by learning to build relationships, act justly by serving, walk humbly through fellowship, then you may be interested in applying for CRWRC's Youth to Youth Program. With an intentional focus on both learning and serving in God’s creation, you will come away with a newfound depth of comprehension of our broader world and how to effectively respond to God's call!

WHAT IS Y2Y?

In the summer of 2009, a group of 16 to 19 year olds will gather together to learn and serve cross-culturally in an undisclosed location in Africa.  The program consists of eight weeks in the summer, with 12 months beforehand of distance learning and training to develop basic language skills, cultural understanding, and biblical studies around the principles of poverty and development.

The group will be made up of four to six North Americans along with four to six Ugandans.  These two groups will go through the distance learning and training separately, meeting for a week-long orientation together before their six weeks in the designated field.  The eighth week will be for debriefing and reflection of individual and group Youth to Youth experiences.

FAQS

Age Range
16-19 (applicants cannot be over 19 during the actual program next summer and college freshmen may apply as long as they are 19 or under)

Where can I get a hold of a brochure or application?
Email youthtoyouth@crcna.org or call (616) 241-1691 and ask for a Youth to Youth Program packet to be sent to you.  Or, simply click on the links in the upper right-hand corner of this page for the PDF files.

Is the application on paper or online?
Both, and the application can be done either way.  You can either: print out a copy of the application, complete it and mail it (the address is written on the last page of the application) or complete a Microsoft Word version of the application and email as an attachment to Ruth Majawa.

What are the costs for the program?
Once an applicant is accepted, we will help him or her learn how to fundraise for the costs (from the time of acceptance, you will have about one year to fundraise—that’s plenty of time if you start early!).  To give a number, every applicant will need to raise $5,000.  This will cover field costs (amount needed to stay in the designated country, necessary immunizations, and airfare).

What is CRWRC's approach to risk management in an international setting?
CRWRC considers safety first for all Youth to Youth participants.  In any situation, it is imperative that all CRWRC staff will be aware of any possible risks and be properly briefed with appropriate actions and responses.  For more information on CRWRC security procedures, please contact Ruth Majawa or Mary Dykstra at 1.800.552.7972.
