Library Consultant

Location: Nigeria

Number of Positions: 1

Expected length of service:: 3 weeks to 2 months

Dates Opportunity is Available: ongoing, depending upon field availability

Purpose: To assist in the development of godly and competent Nigerian church leadership through library consultancy.
 

Specific Responsibilities

  1. Consult with Nigerian church, school, and library leadership to develop library resources in denominational Bible Schools and Seminaries. 
  2. Report to CRWM’s Liason for National Church Partnerships; work alongside leaders of our partner churches in Nigeria (the CRCN, RCCN, and NKST).
  3. Build relationships with the community by staying open and flexible to the culture around you
  4. Live and worship with the community during the project
  5. Complete recommended reading, and orientation before departure to the country
  6. Provide CRWM and the community with an evaluation of the project
  7. Write a story or final report for your church and/or supporters.

Qualifications

  1. Mature Christian committed to serving Jesus Christ
  2. Trained and experienced librarian.
  3. Knowledge of Library of Congress classification system and familiarity with online resources are preferred.
  4. Experience in a university or seminary setting is recommended.
  5. Ability to do physical work in a tropical climate and sometimes under rural conditions
  6. Willingness to follow the community’s leadership in the project
  7. Compassionate, respectful of other cultures, and a well-grounded person
  8. Proactive and able to work with minimal supervision in ambiguous situations
  9. Flexible, adaptable and able to view life with a sense of humor.

 Support Services Provided: CRWM agrees to provide:

  • Orientation materials as well as ongoing logistics and support to meet the needs of the volunteers, local community, and CRWM’s country staff
  • Consultation and/or visits by missionary staff when available
  • Opportunity to help volunteers link their individual/church’s mission and vision to work being done

 Requirements of the volunteer:

  1. Complete and submit a CRWM volunteer application form
  2. Submit to a background check
  3.  Raise prayer and financial support by inviting individuals and/or churches to give to this opportunity
  4. Attend an orientation session in Grand Rapids, MI or Burlington, ON when possible, or participate in alternative (phone- and/or web-based) options.
  5. Adhere to CRCNA Standards of Conduct.

Financial Obligations of the Volunteer: : please note that costs are estimated and listed in US funds

  • Travel to country – approximately $2500.00 (airfare)
  • Food – $300.00
  • Lodging - $300.00
  • In country transportation - $1000.00
  • Visa - $200.00-$320.00
  • Ministry and other expenses: 380.00
    TOTAL Estimated funds needed - $4800.00
