NEW FOR 2009! The SMP mentoring program links each SMPer with a mentor in your home church.
This person may be someone who has been identified/requested by you or may be recommended by
your pastor.
This intentional discipling relationship offers an additional avenue of support for your home church to provide in the form of a specific individual who will come alongside you before, during, and after your summer overseas.
With your mentor, you will be able to prepare yourself mentally, emotionally, and spiritually for your summer of cross-cultural service. You will also have someone to connect with in a deeper way when you return to North America and with whom to begin to integrate your summer experiences into your life in North America.
Over the course of the program, you will meet with your mentor according to the following schedule:
Pre-field: in person and by phone once or twice (April – May)
On-field: email exchanges over the course of the summer (June – August)
Post-field: in person upon your return (early September) and by phone once a month Oct. – Dec.
