Fried Bananas


Dominican Republic
Max & Kina Van Til

4 1/2 tablespoons flour
5 tablespoons water
1 egg
4 bananas split in half lengthwise
5 tablespoons brown sugar (or white sugar or honey)
2 tablespoons water
1 tablespoon oil
1 teaspoon vanilla

Combine flour, water and egg.  Coat banana halves with this mixture then deep-fry until brown all over.  Blot excess oil using paper towel.  Combine brown sugar, water, oil and vanilla.  While still hot, roll the deep-fried banana halves in this sugar mixture then in white sugar.  Serve immediately.

Serves 4.
