Praying for Missions and Missionaries

We make the following suggestions to assist you in your own prayers for missions and to encourage your congregation to be faithful in praying for missions because we know that "bringing salvation to the ends of the earth" is God's idea and His work, that only the Holy Spirit can change a person's heart, and that prayer changes things.

Prayers of thanksgiving which bring honor and glory to God:

• Thank God for his eternal plan of salvation.
• Thank God for his provision of salvation through the life, death and resurrection
   of Jesus Christ.
• Thank God for his promise to gather his family from the nations.
• Thank God for his command and commission to the church.

Pray for the world and its peoples:
• Ask God to move in a mighty way among the nations of the world.
• Pray that governments and rulers act favorably toward those who desire to
   share the gospel.
• Pray for those who suffer from poverty, injustice, oppression and disease.
• Pray for political and economic stability among the nations.
• Ask God to open doors of opportunity for the gospel.
• Pray for the un-reached and under-reached peoples of the world.
• Pray that the veil would be lifted and that God's light shine into the hearts of
   unbelievers.

Pray for the world-wide church and its mission:
• Pray for more workers and the resources to sustain them.
• Pray for national churches and their call to missions.
• Pray for the discipling of new Christians.
• Pray that the CRCNA will be obedient in its God-given mission.
• Pray that the CRCNA will be faithful and generous in its financial support of
   missions.

Pray for missionaries everywhere:
• that they proclaim the gospel message clearly and without bias.
• that they will see and seize God-given opportunities to share the gospel.
• that God's grace would increase in their lives and work.
• that God would speak clearly to them and that they would willingly and eagerly
follow the leading of the Holy Spirit.
• for their protection from Satan and those who might wish to harm them.
• for God-glorifying results.
• for emotional health.
• for spiritual health.
• for physical health.
• for healthy family relationships.
• for healthy relationships with missionary and national colleagues.
• for missionary kids.
• for missionary parents.
• for safety.
• for appropriate sensitivity toward and adaptation to other cultures.
• for clear vision and great joy in mission tasks while keeping their eyes focussed
   on the Lord.
• for missionaries to show the fruits of the Spirit.
• for protection against loneliness, discouragement and depression.
• for excellent relationships with North American supporters.
• for lives that reflect integrity and holiness.

John 17:20

We pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the Kingdom of Light.
Col. 1: 10-12

The Lord is far from the wicked but he hears the prayer of the righteous.
Prov. 15: 29

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, with prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
