The Nurses

Mizoram Nurses in Nepal ministry is an example of the way Christian Reformed World Missions is working with an international partner to accomplish ministry together in another place. World Missions provides a grant of $12,000 to the Mizoram Presbyterian Synod Mission so that they can send four medical nurses to Nepal to work in a team with church planters and pastors in Nepalese Hindu communities to demonstrate the holistic nature of the kingdomof God.

CRWM's modest grant enables them to extend their budget by sending four nurses to Nepal. The cost per nurse is only $3,000 a year because they can travel to Nepal by land and they live on very little. Currently, Mr. C. Lalzawmlina (Zawma), Miss. P.C. Lalhmingmawii (Mintei), Miss. Vanlalchhuanawmi (Uawmtei), and Miss. R. Lalremruati (Remi) are the nurses serving at rural medical centres in Nepal.

Holistic Ministry

On a daily basis, the nurses are visiting sick people and teaching community health to the people within their working place.  When the opportunity presents itself, they are telling people about Jesus Christ and praying for patients.  Their ministry supports the evangelism efforts of the Synod Mission Board (SMB), of the Mizoram Presbyterian Church and local congregations of the Presbyterian Church of Nepal.

Mizoram Presbyterian Church

The Mizoram Presbyterian Church is a 600,000 member Reformed church in North East India (Mizoram is an Indian state). This is one of the largest Reformed churches in the world. They send out almost 1500 missionaries, mostly to other areas of India. The church has a $3,000,000 (US) mission budget. The church in Mizoram are also some of the best fundraisers for missions.  This year they are celebrated the centenary or "Handful of Rice."   At each meal, each family puts a handful of rice in a container marked the Lord's share.  They bring it to church on Sunday.  It is sold in the market on Monday.  Last year the equivalent to over $1.4 million was raised through this.
