Ministry at a Glance

Christian Reformed World Missions is involved in Nepal through a few venues. Arbin and Bimala Pokharel are Nepalis with a long-time connection with the Christian Reformed Church and have requested help from CRWM with their ministries. Arbin is a church planter and currently serves as principal of EPTS. Bimala has started various micro-enterprises in Kathmandu. Troy and Faith provide support and encouragement for their work and most of Troy’s work is focused on developing EPTS. In addition to work at EPTS, Troy facilitates CRWM’s partnership with Mizoram’s Presbyterian Church, which sends four missionary nurses to Nepal. These nurses are all involved in church planting in extremely poor areas of Nepal.

The church in Nepal has been growing rapidly for several years, faster than leaders have been trained to lead it. We want to see this evangelistic church thriving with equipped and godly Nepali leaders:

  • Equipped leaders are those who can handle well the basic aspects of pastoral ministry. They are extending Christ’s reign by applying the gospel in their communities with an increasingly biblical worldview.
  • Godly leaders are those whose example and integrity is Christlike and worth following. They “correctly handle the word of truth.”

Ministry Focus

The focus of World Missions in Nepal is to help the Nepali church with basic pastoral leadership training and ministry skills development and to assist Evangelical Presbyterian Theological Seminary with faculty development and integrated curriculum (‘integrated curriculum’ means a curriculum of courses that are tied to and build upon each other rather than merely a collected aggregate of theology courses. It also implies a continued focus on a culturally and ecclesiastically nuanced curriculum specialized for the Nepali context).

Missionaries

  • Troy and Faith Bierma: Troy is a theological educator at Evangelical Presbyterian Theological Seminary (EPTS).
