Rev. Steve Van Zanen
1. Where Christ is Not Known
- Text: Romans 15:14-24
- Focus: Paul’s calling and priority for his own ministry was to bring the Gospel to unreached peoples. Although much of the world has been reached since his time and especially in the last century, that priority on unreached people must still be a priority for us. This message includes reflection on current mission activity among the Fulani of Mali.
- Songs: (from the grey Psalter)
542 “The Ends of All the Earth Shall Hear”
235 “Here from All Nations”
195 “Our God Reigns”
2. Leadership Links in Missions
- Text: II Timothy 2:1-7
- Focus: As he faces the end of his life and ministry Paul writes to Timothy, one of his key lieutenants about the vital importance of leadership training, which was Paul’s method of multiplying the ministry. That focus enables us to leverage the impact of the North American missionary as well as advancing local ministry. Examples from Mexico and Francophone Africa.
- Songs: (from the grey Psalter)
- 528 “Lord, Speak to Me That I May Speak”
- 521 “God of the Prophets”
- 412 “Jesus Shall Reign”
3. Should We not be Concerned?
- Text: Jonah 4
- Focus: In the book of Jonah everything and everyone was obedient to God, except the one called to be a missionary. He has not adopted the heart of God for the lost and therefore he is angry when they are saved. The beginning of missions action, locally and globally, is adopting the concern of our Father for the lost.
- Songs: (from the grey Psalter)
513 Christian Hearts in Love United
531 How Shall They Hear the Word of God
525 “O Christians, Haste”
523 “Lord, You Give the Great Commission” tune: Ellesdie
531 “I Love to Tell the Story”
Rev. Albert Hamstra
By All Means
- Text: I Corinthians 9: 19-23
- Focus: In order to reach all, we use the means available today. I discuss the situation of global Christianity today and how that affects our mission strategies. Or, I can apply this to the world of Islam. I mention the role of short-termers and young people in mission. The basic point of the sermon is that we must be adaptable to our current situation and find ways of doing mission in that context.
Mr. Ron Geerlings
1. Mission in Iraq
- Text: Jonah 3:1-10
- Focus: Mission emphasis requires an emphasis on God's place in mission. We will look at Jonah, CRC mission history and the unreached, largely-Muslim, world today.
2. Rise and Shine!
- Text: Isaiah 60:1-7
- Focus: God is true to his word. We can see Isaiah's prophecy being fulfilled even in places that were the hardest for our ancestors and us to imagine.
