God has called Home Missions to play a key role in mission in North America--to assist the Christian Reformed Church in spreading the gospel of the kingdom in North America.
In a word, sharing the good news of Jesus.
God has not called Home Missions to do evangelism. No, that’s the church’s job. Rather, He has called Home Missions to serve the church. How? By coordinating and promoting and providing all kinds of resources for spreading the good news.
Home Missions, you might say, is the church’s coach and cheerleader for mission and evangelism in the CRC.
Home Missions has organized its work into five areas that relate to this gospel witness:
- focuses churches on mission,
- helps plant new churches,
- assists campus ministries,
- trains mission leaders, and
- encourages small groups and prayer.
Home Missions is no "Lone Ranger" in this work. We partner with regional classes and local congregations to get it done.
We partner with hundreds of donors who give faithfully to support more than 275 Christian Reformed ministries in Canada and the United States that receive grant funding. Home Missions also relies on the prayer support of men and women, girls and boys in churches throughout North America.
The Mission of Christian Reformed Home Missions is carried out in five areas of ministry:
Spiritual Formation
Home Missions helps churches start and maintain relationship-based small groups and prayer ministries that foster personal and corporate spiritual growth. Fourteen regional small group ministry developers offer training and coaching in English, Spanish, and Korean.
Mission-focused Churches
Home Missions offers seminars, regional festivals, leadership coaching, assessment centers, support networks, and consulting to local churches. Grants for programs and staffing are provided to mission-focused churches. Home Missions also administers grants from the Fund for Smaller Churches.
Church Planting and Development
Home Missions helps parenting churches and classes to start as many as up to 20 new churches annually in locations throughout Canada and the United States. These new church plants range from urban to suburban, and from majority culture to various ethnic language churches. Residency, coaching, Bootcamp, and orientation are also offered to new church planters.
Educational Mission
Home Missions provides grant funding and professional support to campus ministries across Canada and the United States. In addition, Home Missions assists the Red Mesa Christian Schools Association in Rehoboth, New Mexico.
Leadership Development
Through the work of Leadership Development Networks, Home Mission offers on-the-job training for future evangelists and church planters. On-line training is available to students through a partnership with Calvin Theological Seminary and Kuyper College. Assessments and internships also are available.
