Emerging Leadership Initiative

Need
Identify, inspire, and equip an emerging generation of campus ministers

Goals
1. To extend the mission of a given campus ministry.

2. To develop missional gifts of students.

3. To create mentoring relationships which model and multiply leaders.

4. To encourage campus ministers to seek out emerging leaders.

Plan
1. To offer a grant to support a "work-study" bursary to students at least halfway through their course of study which extends the current scope of mission on campus.

2. The grant would be no more than $1,000 per semester. (This assumes a 15-week semester, 7 hours work per week, at almost $10.00 per hour.)

3. No student would be eligible for grant support for more than 4 semesters.

Application Procedure
1. Grant applications are due in the Campus Ministry Director's office at least two months prior to the beginning of the semester.

2. An application must include:

a) a detailed description of the proposed mission, (including a statement of the goals of the mission, a breakdown of how and when the student's time will be spent—meetings with mentor, study and preparation, event activities, etc.—and how this venture fits with, but extends, the mission of the campus ministry

b) a letter of reference from the campus minister indicating the gifts for ministry the student brings to the mission

c) an outline of how the mentor will support and evaluate the student.

3. Within one month of the close of the term, the student will submit to the mentor a brief evaluation of program and a short reflection on how the student's missional skills were employed and developed over the term.

4. Within two months of the close of term, the mentor will submit to the Campus Ministry Director's office a copy of the student evaluation along with a short evaluation of his/her own.
