Set Your Mind on the Spirit

“God commands His children, having been justified by grace, to set their minds on the Spirit. Since the works of Christ on the cross have completed the requirements of the Law, God bids us to partner with the Holy Spirit in being sanctified.”
  Romans 8:5-6

“To set our minds on the Spirit” is to think continually about and constantly desire the things characteristic of our new nature in Christ. Note the on-going mood of the command. Set your mind on the Spirit and ‘keep’ setting it on the Spirit. Fix your eyes on the Holy Spirit and never blink from Him! This is not a single event; rather a continual work of the Holy Spirit until we are fully sanctified on the Day of the LORD. We are also being encouraged to think just the way the Holy Spirit thinks, emphasizing what He thinks important, pursuing what He pursues, in regard to God’s will. Therefore we must partner with the Holy Spirit and conform our intellect, feelings and volition to the way of the Spirit.

For Discussion: Reflect and discern an area in your life that needs to be set on the Spirit. How are you being distracted from setting your mind on the Spirit?

Prayer: Father, I desire to become one with the Holy Spirit and to cut off anything that hinders the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit. Amen!
