A struggling Church in a Struggling Community
The River is a growing ministry that is the result of a church restart in the struggling community of Allegan, Michigan.  Pator Jon Vugteveen was called to serve the tiny congregation of twelve individuals over three years ago.  Since then, attendance has increased tenfold; about 150 worshippers now attend services every Sunday.  "God has instilled new hope in those who are attending," Jon says.  "Hope in God, and the healing that has taken place, does indeed lead to new life in Jesus Christ."

"God showed up on a daily basis"
The River started with the generous outpouring of prayer and effort by members of classes Zeeland and Holland and the faithful obedience of Jon and his wife Lori in their calling.  "I spent a good chunk of my life running away from God...until He got a hold of me," says Jon.  "I'm called now.  I'm called for this season."

The River draws people of all backgrounds, and together they seek to draw closer to God as they go through life.  "God showed up on a daily basis," says one church member.  Another says, "There's just something about this church.  They don't give up on you."
