Preflighting

CRC Product Services can accept files created in the most popular page-assembly applications and saved as Adobe Acrobat (PDF) files. Contact us if you wonder if your files are compatible with our systems. When preparing files for imaging or printing, keep in mind the following:

1. Include a hard copy of all pages.
A printout of the final version of the document is all important. Many page elements—type especially—is dynamic until the final stages of imaging. We need your hard copy to insure that items on the page are where you intended them. Emailing us the files? Fax us the hard copy: 616 224-080.

2. Send only the files that we need.
Send only the files that we need to image the documents. Sending multiple versions of files or including irrelevant folders increases the risk of our imaging the wrong file. As always, make sure to keep a copy of all files.

3. Fonts are yet the source of most imaging problems.
Include all fonts used in the document as well as any fonts used in placed artwork.

4. Establish the correct color space for all related files.
If the final piece is to be printed using process (CMYK) color, and to avoid undesirable color conversion, make sure all imported art has been saved as process color. Likewise, if the color is to be printed as spot color, make sure that spot color is indicated in the document. If in doubt, in Acrobat use Output Preview (Advanced...>Output Preview) to check your document or, if using an older version of Acrobat, print out the separated plates. Note that most digital photos are saved as RGB and need to be converted to CMYK before imaging.

5. Page size and page order need to be clear.
Because different people organize their documents differently, make a "dummy" using laser printouts if necessary to communicate to us the layout of the pages. If the dummy is not made to size, make sure to tell us what size you are planning on the final piece being.
