CRC in Canadian Ecumenical Ministry

In Canada, the Christian Reformed Church in North America is a member of three ecumenical organizations: the Canadian Council of Churches (CCC), the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (EFC), and KAIROS: Canadian Ecumenical Justice Initiatives.

The Canadian Council of Churches (CCC)
The Canadian Council of Churches is the largest ecumenical body in Canada, now representing 23 churches of Anglican; Evangelical; Free Church; Eastern Orthodox and Oriental Orthodox; Protestant; and Catholic traditions. Together we represent 85% of the Christians in Canada. The Canadian Council of Churches was founded in 1944.

The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (EFC)
The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada is the national association of evangelical Christians in Canada. It gathers Evangelicals together for impact, influence and identity in ministry and public witness. Since 1964 the EFC has provided a national forum for Evangelicals and a constructive voice for biblical principles in life and society. The EFC affiliates include denominations, ministry organizations, educational institutions and individual congregations, who uphold a common statement of faith. The EFC also has more than 15,000 supporting individuals.

KAIROS
On July 1, 2001, from a rich global heritage and a hopeful Canadian tradition, Canadian churches and religious organizations formed KAIROS: Canadian Ecumenical Justice Initiatives. A faithful and decisive response to God’s call for respect for the earth and justice for its people, KAIROS is dedicated to promoting human rights, justice and peace, viable human development, and solidarity. In KAIROS, the churches and religious organizations work together for justice, benefiting from collective discernment in responding wisely and faithfully to the signs of the times.

Rev. Bruce Adema, Director of Canadian Ministries, is elected President of the Canadian Council of Churches from 2009 to 2012.

The CRC in Canada has appointed a number of CRC members to be our denomination's representatives on a variety of commissions and committees of the CCC and program committees of KAIROS.

Here is a complete list of 2011-2012 CRC Appointments.

“Focusing on the continuation of his ministry and mission in the world, Christ prays for the unity of the church, a unity as deep and wondrous as that between him and the Father: “that all of them may be one . . . so that the world may believe that you have sent me” (John 17:21). At stake in the unity of the church is the witness in and for the world to the unity of God, the one Father of us all (Eph. 4:6).
