Justice Buzz: new and intriguing resources
Compiled by CCG

  • Building on this month's narrative by Hendrik Vlaar, check out dignityforall.ca—a joint campaign by CPJ and Canada Without Poverty. "Dignity for All is a multi-year, multi-partner, non-partisan campaign. This campaign?s vision is to make a poverty-free and more socially secure and cohesive Canada a reality by 2020. The conviction behind this campaign is that Canadians must respect and defend the right of every person to dignity and security."

  • The CRC's Office of Social Justice (OSJ) is co-presenting the Eat Well Food Tour, coming to southern Ontario in mid-August. Don't miss Rob and Kirstin Vander Giessen-Reitsma, who will urge you: "Consider the story you tell when you eat—is it consistent with the Good News? How might you learn to Eat Well, and allow food to feed your faith?"

  • The Canadian Foodgrains Bank is sponsoring Fast for Change on World Food Day, October 16. "Why Do It? By participating in Fast for Change you are joining with Christians all over Canada, united by our belief that hunger in a world of such abundance is a matter of injustice. We live in a world where climate changes and unfair trade policies affect the more than 850 million people who are chronically malnourished. The coexistence of abundance and abject poverty imply some changes are necessary to our daily life. As followers of Jesus, we are being called to respond in prayer and action."

  • From the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (EFC), Legal Counsel Faye Sonier writes a compelling condemnation of euthanasia, assisted suicide and abortion at Christianity.ca.

  • CCG staff Mike Hogeterp and friend Kathy Vandergrift are among the contributors to a new resource from the Canadian Council of Churches, The Gospel Imperative to Advocacy: Faith & the Public Square.

  • From Citizens for Public Justice (CPJ), socio-economic policy analyst Karri Munn-Venn adds her reflections on the one-year anniversary of the Canadian government's apology to aboriginals.

  • And from Cardus, "A Theology of the Crash" by Research Fellow Geoff Ryan begs some thinking: "I've never owned any stocks, bonds or shares in anything either. I have no savings and I don't have a credit card. I have no credit rating and live from paycheck to paycheck. So what has changed for me, now that [the economy] is "officially" a crisis?
