What is CCG?
The Committee for Contact with the Government (CCG) is a ministry of the Christian Reformed churches in Canada. The CCG strives to present a prophetic witness to Canadian governments that demonstrates Jesus' ministry of justice today. All of our work proceeds from commitments to biblical, theological and confessional reflection, careful and relevant research, and constructive engagements with governments.

The CCG is accountable to the CRC's Board of Trustees for Canada, and works closely with the Director of Canadian Ministries. We base our work, whenever possible, on the official positions of the Christian Reformed Church as determined by Synod. We work in close consultation with CRC accountability structures and other partners when it is clear that we must act on a pressing issue that Synod has not formally addressed.

History
CCG began as a standing committee of the Council of Christian Reformed Churches in Canada back in 1968. Ever since, the CCG has worked to articulate a Christian vision for political life.

Committee members have tackled such issues as abortion, capital punishment, criminal justice, education, environment, family, food security, foreign aid, gambling, marriage, pornography, poverty, Sunday observance, stem cell research—the list goes on. The CCG's work has also contributed to the development of the CRC's ecumenical presence, by bringing it into contact with other churches doing justice work. Today, partly as a result of the work of CCG, CRC perspectives on justice issues are highly regarded by our ecumenical partners and governments in Canada.

Working for Justice in Canada
The Committee for Contact with the Government lives into this testimony:

Since God establishes the powers that rule,
we are called to respect them,
unless they trample his Word.
We are to obey God in politics, pray for our rulers,
and help governments to know his will for public life.
Knowing that God's people live under many forms of government,
we are thankful for the freedoms enjoyed by citizens of many lands;
we grieve with those who live under oppression,
and we work for their liberty to live without fear.

We call on Governments to do public justice
and to protect the freedoms and rights
of individuals, groups and institutions,
so that each may freely do
the tasks that God gives.
We urge governments to ensure the well-being of all citizens
by protecting children from abuse and pornography,
by guarding the elderly and poor,
and by promoting the freedom to speak, to work,
to worship, and to associate.
