Christmas Blessings

Dec. 22, 2006--Millions of Portuguese-speaking people are learning about the true Christ of Christmas, some for the very first time. Five hundred thousand special editions of the devotional booklet CADA DIA were printed and distributed throughout Brazil this December.

Mrs. Jocenira M. is one person who shared the Good News. “Every week I go to the Public Health Clinic to get medicine for my husband. Because I know most of the people, I took a CADA DIA for everyone, with a personal note and their names on the envelope. The next week one young lady ran to me and gave me a hug.”

“You can’t imagine what you’ve done in my life,” the young woman told Jocenira, who asks us to pray that she will continue to open her heart to Christ.

“I didn’t know that just offering a booklet with a personal word of concern could do so much for the lives of people!” expressed Jocenira.

CADA DIA is just one way people in Brazil are hearing about Jesus this Christmas. Globo Television Network (GTN), the number one station in Brazil, will once again be airing the Portuguese-language version of The Back to God Hour’s “Prince of Peace” video, a 3D animation of the Christmas story, reports Rev. Celsino Gama, Portuguese ministry leader.

GTN, which completely dominates the market, aired “The Prince of Peace” in prime viewing times, and they are negotiating with us for the rights to broadcast it in future years. Two years ago an estimated 15 million people saw “The Prince of Peace” on Christmas Eve, and last year 6.2 million children watched the story on the Saturday morning before Christmas.

Responses to all of the Portuguese language ministries have been overwhelming! More than 10,000 listeners contacted The Back to God Hour’s follow-up center in Campinas, Brazil last January. Our two Portuguese language websites, where people can learn more about the Bible or hear a daily devotional message, have received more than half a million hits this past year.

“Now our prayer is that God will provide more follow-up volunteers for our expanding ministry,” notes Rev. Gama. Pray also that God will continue to work in the hearts of those who respond, and that He will provide the resources for discipling those who commit their lives to Christ.
