Nov. 29, 2006--While Muslims in Indonesia concluded their celebrations of the Muslim holiday Ramadan, Rev. Untung Ongkowidjaja met with listeners and station managers in remote areas of Indonesia to determine their reaction to The Back to God Hour’s Indonesian language Christian programming.
“I was happy to hear that they appreciate our programs,” reports Rev. Untung. “Listeners said that our radio programs are helpful for them as they learn about the Word of God. They are grateful for the programs that are ‘like daily bread for their souls.’
“I realized again that follow-up programs are very powerful for reaching out to our listeners,” he notes. “When we visit the communities we can better understand their conditions and needs, so that we can create programs and materials that focus on reaching our listeners for Christ. Two new ministries are being planned to meet this need.
Rev. Untung explains, “We are planning to build listener communities in some areas.” Listener communities provide opportunities for listeners to come together to share experiences with one another and learn about the support ministries of The Back to God Hour. The first event will be on November 25, a tea-walk at Ciater Tea Plantation. “We hope that about 350 people will come.”
Then, in mid-December Rev. Untung will launch a new follow-up book, Family Worship–52 Weeks to Build Family Character, a weekly devotional that focuses on character building. “Please also support this new venture with your prayers,” asks Rev. Untung.
Additional exciting new ministries are also in the works. Following the success of the new children’s TV program, the Indonesian staff is discussing pre-production details for a new program, Wheels of Life, geared to reach adults. The team is discussing initial ideas about topics for the programs, backdrop design, format, video clips to insert into the programs, and marketing plans. The next step will be to make three pilot programs to use as samples for TV stations.
As you can see, the “Wheels of Life” keep turning in Indonesia, the largest Muslim country in the world. Rev. Untung requests prayers that the TV program and all of these new ministries will be effective in reaching individuals and families for Christ. “Please pray that Jesus Christ our Lord will bless every effort and all of our planning.”
