New Bike Tour Registration Options Offer Shorter Rides

Sept. 17, 2007—People interested in cycling with the Sea to Sea Bike Tour next summer will have more registration options beginning October 1.

The tour route has been divided into three sections ranging from two to four weeks and from 800 to 1,550 miles in distance. Now, in addition to the full nine-week, 3,750-mile tour, cyclists can register for one or two sections of the route.

The three sections are:
•    WEST – Seattle to Denver, 1,550 miles, June 28 to July 26, 4 weeks;
•    CENTRAL – Denver to Grand Rapids, 1,400 miles, July 27 to Aug. 16, 3 weeks;
•    EAST – Grand Rapids to Jersey City, 800 miles, August 17 to 31, 2 weeks.

Registration opened August 1 for cyclists riding the full distance from Seattle to Denver. So far, 54 riders have signed up and more are expected before the new registration options open in October.

“We recognized that for many people nine weeks is a long time to be away from work and family,” said Claire Elgersma, steering committee chair. “We built in shorter segments from the start but wanted to give those able to go the whole way the first chance to register. We believe the shorter sections will allow more people to participate while keeping the logistics of such an enormous event manageable.”

More details on the new registration options are available online. Download the revised applications forms now at www.SeatoSea.org to begin the registration process. Space is limited on each section and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Final registration closes January 31, 2008.
