Ministry Shares Help CRWM do Education
Nov. 3, 2009 -- Christian Reformed World Missions has developed a new Missions Education & Engagement Team (MEET) whose primary aim is to educate and motivate local churches for global outreach.
Christian Reformed congregations provide approximately 40 percent of World Missions' income through the denomination’s ministry share system.
“Because of the generosity of God's people through the use of the ministry share system, World Missions is able to provide many services and resources to CRC congregations at no additional cost,” says Van Zanen.
A variety of resources are available to accomplish this goal, including sending speakers to preach and teach on missions in worship services and adult, teen or children’s classes.
“We provide missions education resources that are not aimed at gaining support for CRWM work but rather are more broadly about the global mission of a congregation,” says Steve Van Zanen, director for CRWM’s mission education and engagement team. Van Zanen visits 20-25 churches per year and is available to speak in a variety of settings.
“Our vision at World Missions is to walk alongside local congregations to enhance their vision for global outreach,” he says. “We want to see local congregations actively engaged in global ministry. Through tailored resources, training, and consultation services, we strive to assist local church leaders in stimulating a deeper vision for and involvement in missions.”
Some of CRWM’s resources for churches include:
- UNLEASHED! A Fall Missions Webinar Series,
- Mentoring Program for Summer Mission Participants,
- Preaching for Worship Services & Missions Celebration Events,
- Workshops/Adult Sunday school presentations,
- Mission Emphasis Resources,
- Missions Toolkit,
- and others.
Items for which World Missions charges include:
- GO Missions Conferences,
- Prayer Missions International -- Short Term Prayer Missions,
- Church Missions Coaching.
The majority of World Missions' resources are free, including the cost of shipping. A limited number require payment. These are indicated in the resource brochures and on the CRWM website. Charging a modest amount for these resources and services allows World Missions to make them available to a greater number of congregations throughout North America.
