Pastoral Excellence Project Seeking Applicants

September 1, 2015

The Christian Reformed Church is seeking applicants to participate in its Spiritual Vitality in Pastors Project, a 16-month spiritual-formation journey being funded by a matching grant from the Pastoral Excellence Network and three CRC ministries (Sustaining Pastoral Excellence, Faith Formation Ministries, & Pastor-Church Relations).

Based at the Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, Ind., the Pastoral Excellence Network supports a range of programs that focus on continuing education.

The project will involve 16 ordained pastors (Minister of the Word or Commissioned Pastors) who are working full-time in parish ministry. Deadline to apply is Sept. 21. Click here for the details.

“This project is designed to strengthen pastors in their own spiritual awareness and practices. Participation in a learning cohort with other clergy will inform this process,” says the project overview.

Goals of the project are to provide pastors with tools, resources, and encouragement for assessing and strengthening their own spiritual formation.

In addition, the program will equip pastors to encourage each other in personal spiritual formation and strengthen the spiritual formation of pastors so that they in turn are more equipped to strengthen the spiritual formation of their congregants.

The program also has the goal of alerting congregational leadership to the importance and benefits of investing in the spiritual formation of their pastors, and to develop habits of spiritual formation that will be sustained long after the completion of the project.

Pastors will engage in a number of activities including attending retreats, working with a spiritual director, taking a variety of assessments, reading, and meeting with colleagues.
