CRWRC Launches ‘Embrace AIDS’ Campaign

Christian Reformed World Relief Committee (www.crwrc.org) announced a wide-ranging, two-year ‘Embrace AIDS’ Campaign with a goal of raising $3 million to help curb the spread of HIV/AIDS and ease the suffering.

The campaign was launched among Christian Reformed congregations on July 1 and will run through June 30, 2009.

Calvin Presents Fair-Trade Fair

For the third consecutive year, the Social Justice Committee at Calvin College will sponsor its holiday fair of fair-trade handicrafts (and coffee) from around the world.

"Presents With Presence" will take place from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Wednesday, December 4-5 in the Hekman Library lobby. The fair will feature a mélange of goods from nine vendors, all priced to benefit the original makers of the items.

Leaders Hone Skills at Home Missions’ Workshop

A group of Christian Reformed Church preachers and lay leaders are honing their speaking skills this week by, among other things, watching film clips from movies such as “The Wizard of Oz.”

During a four-day seminar at the CRC’s Grand Rapids offices, the ministers and lay leaders are attending a series of seminars on topics ranging from integrating humor into their sermons and presentations to learning how to use anecdotes, illustrations and stories to make their presentations of the gospel more compelling.

CRC Prepares to Stage ‘Biggest Ever’ Bike Tour

Kevin Bouws of Grand Rapids is looking forward to the “immense challenge” of pedaling his bike across the United States this summer as part of the Christian Reformed Church’s Sea to Sea 2008 Bike Tour.

Cyclists will begin the Sea to Sea tour—a fundraiser to fight poverty—on June 28 in Seattle, Wash., and end nine weeks later in Jersey City, N.J. on Aug. 30, including a trek across a small section of Canada.

“I’m riding to make a lasting impact in the fight against poverty,” says Bouws, who this week became the 97th person to sign up for the entire ride.
